CME Outfitters Announces Live neuroscienceCME TV Activity: "Bipolar Depression: Individualizing Treatment to Prevent Relapse and Recurrence" Premieres

Rockville, MD (PRWEB) July 10, 2008 -- CME Outfitters, LLC, an independent accredited provider of multidisciplinary medical education programming and related healthcare communications services, is pleased to announce an upcoming live and interactive evidence-based neuroscienceCME TV activity titled "Bipolar Depression: Individualizing Treatment to Prevent Relapse and Recurrence."

Premiering Wednesday, September 10, 2008, from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. ET, the activity will incorporate the latest evidence-based diagnosis and treatment strategies to provide early detection, intervention, and long-term maintenance opportunities for improving outcomes for patients with bipolar depression. This activity also includes a special "After the Show" segment during which the faculty answers additional audience questions in an informal Q&A session. The recorded satellite broadcast will re-air from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET. This CE activity will also be available as an archived webcast, podcast, and telephone audioconference shortly after the broadcast premiere, and available as a multimedia CD-ROM in October 2008.

There is no fee to participate or receive CE credit for this activity; however, registration is required. Three forms of registration are accepted:

Statement of Need:

There is an unmet need for acute - and in particular, maintenance - pharmacologic treatments that target bipolar depression. Despite the preponderance of depressive symptoms and episodes (versus manic) over the course of both bipolar I and II disorder, and the more frequent functional impairment associated with bipolar depression, there has been a disproportionate lack of attention paid to establishing effective treatment and management of bipolar depression. This has recently begun to change, however, with the approval and addition of atypical antipsychotics to the arsenal of medications used for bipolar depression. Recently completed studies and trials in progress are expected to contribute to the growing literature supporting the effectiveness of these types of medications for the treatment of bipolar depression. Clinicians are in urgent need of education and performance improvement in the recognition, diagnosis, and acute and maintenance treatment of bipolar depression. Published treatment guidelines are an adequate framework for developing treatment plans. However, clinicians need additional education on pharmacologic treatments for bipolar depression. In this evidence-based, neuroscienceCME TV activity, experts will provide information on pharmacologic treatments for bipolar depression that will enable participants to integrate these findings into current treatment guidelines to further enhance and maintain good patient outcomes.
