Proposed Ballot Initiative Heightens Interest in San Francisco TV Show

San Francisco, CA (PRWeb) February 15, 2007 -- A ballot initiative demanded by California activists for the handicapped and disabled will be one of the topics of a television shown hosted by Steve Zeltzer, a San Francisco based labor activist.

Dr. Charles Phillips, M.D. and nurse Barbara Clark, R.N., N.P. will share their insights on the apparent upheaval over employer penalties and the workers' right to sue their employer.

Last week, the acting administrative director of the Division of Workers' Compensation, Carrie Nevans, proposed "employer penalties" for those employers dragging out California workers' compensation claims.

"Sacramento bureaucrats have gutted any meaningful deterrent against employers for failure to timely authorize medical treatments for the 30,000 disabled and injured Californians awaiting medical treatment," said Clark, who has an appeal pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit against John Rea, the boss of Ms. Nevans (see 06-16333, Clark vs. Rea).

Nevans asserted last week that 30,000 individuals may be in a state of having their claims to medical care "unfairly denied".

"This is the watershed issue for the 2008 presidential election," cited injured worker Larry Nign. "All of a sudden all these national politicians want to talk about health care reform and point to California as a successful example of reform," he continued.

"Reform, maybe. For the private profits of the insurance industry, certainly not for the thousands who live in constant pain while their requests for medical treatment are ignored by claims adjusters practicing medicine without a license," he concluded.

The one-hour discussion airs on San Francisco COMCAST Channel 29 this Thursday, 2/15/2007, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
